All About Countrywide
The Countrywide which is the largest independent residential mortgage lending firm in the United States was founded by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb on march 14th 1969. Countrywide mortgage lending subsidiary the then called Countrywide Funding Corporation has helped millions of families find ways to accomplish their home ownership needs. The success of the company gave birth to five more Countrywide branches. In 1981, the company formed Countrywide Securities Corporation, a broker-dealer subsidiary that would sell securities backed by loans made.
In 1984, Countrywide was the first mortgage lender to use computers to originate home loans, reducing the time it took to create loan forms from a half hour to a few minutes. The firm had worked to lower the barriers to homeownership, especially among lower-income and minority individuals and families. In 1995, a new Consumer Markets Division was formed combining the retail branch system with the telemarketing group which was believed to be a major move to reach out directly to the consumers. To facilitate homeowners insurance for its loan customers Countrywide had operated Countrywide Insurance Services, Inc., a subsidiary and an insurance agency expanding its insurance product offerings to include homeowners, home protection, condo, life, health, disability and auto insurance.

Countrywide remains an American success story by setting new operational records and delivering strong earnings growth in a challenging business environment. The company's mission is to remove barriers to homeownership by supporting nonprofit organizations with missions to expand affordable housing opportunities.

My advice to anybody who wants to refinance is don't use Countrywide. It seems that the have the same problem over and over "the underwriters". Everytime I have called for the past 5 weeks, the answers is the same: the underwriter is checking your documents. OMG please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

I have been waiting and dealing with Countrywide for three months trying to buy our first house. Our papers were getting reviewed with the underwriters for 4 weeks because the first underwriter that was working on them went on vacation, and the one filling in for him got sick and they were already short staffed. That is the excuse they gave us, then they finally get sent to docs which we are still waiting for almost a week later. Then they say if we are not funded by Tuesday the requirements are changing on Wednesday so our papers will be sent back to the underwriters to be reviewed again. It is Friday night and we don't have our papers so pretty much we won't be funded on Tuesday. I hate them!!!!!!!! I would not recommend them to anyone!!!!.

Asked for a payment deferral due to a medical condition. Was told that the application had been processed and I was fine to wait to make my next payment 3 months later. However, 3 months later, my mortgage was now in Collections as my applications was NEVER processed, and my credit rating was TRASHED. No matter who I speak with or how I try to correct the error, Countrywide tells me that "too bad", their error is my problem and they want ALL of the mortgage payments for those 3 months plus interest plus all fees incurred due to their error. This has now TRIPLED my monthly payment over the 20 month low..

We refinanced with Countrywide, and was given an adjustable rate (2 years) They told us that we could refinance in a year with no problem. We paid our mortgage on time every time and waited the year. We called them up and asked about refinancing and they said we couldn't because our house had depreciated (BIG LIE!!) and they we owed more on the loan than our house was worth. The wanted us to wait until after rate went up and try again. Then I called to verify what our new rate would be and they said they could not tell us until about one month before it was due to adjust. (ANOTHER BIG LIE!!!!!) They wanted us to wait because then it would give us enough time to go with another company and we would have to be stuck paying that high rate! THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY!!!.
