All About Countrywide
The Countrywide which is the largest independent residential mortgage lending firm in the United States was founded by Angelo Mozilo and David Loeb on march 14th 1969. Countrywide mortgage lending subsidiary the then called Countrywide Funding Corporation has helped millions of families find ways to accomplish their home ownership needs. The success of the company gave birth to five more Countrywide branches. In 1981, the company formed Countrywide Securities Corporation, a broker-dealer subsidiary that would sell securities backed by loans made.
In 1984, Countrywide was the first mortgage lender to use computers to originate home loans, reducing the time it took to create loan forms from a half hour to a few minutes. The firm had worked to lower the barriers to homeownership, especially among lower-income and minority individuals and families. In 1995, a new Consumer Markets Division was formed combining the retail branch system with the telemarketing group which was believed to be a major move to reach out directly to the consumers. To facilitate homeowners insurance for its loan customers Countrywide had operated Countrywide Insurance Services, Inc., a subsidiary and an insurance agency expanding its insurance product offerings to include homeowners, home protection, condo, life, health, disability and auto insurance.

Countrywide remains an American success story by setting new operational records and delivering strong earnings growth in a challenging business environment. The company's mission is to remove barriers to homeownership by supporting nonprofit organizations with missions to expand affordable housing opportunities.

We refinanced with Countrywide, and was given an adjustable rate (2 years) They told us that we could refinance in a year with no problem. We paid our mortgage on time every time and waited the year. We called them up and asked about refinancing and they said we couldn't because our house had depreciated (BIG LIE!!) and they we owed more on the loan than our house was worth. The wanted us to wait until after rate went up and try again. Then I called to verify what our new rate would be and they said they could not tell us until about one month before it was due to adjust. (ANOTHER BIG LIE!!!!!) They wanted us to wait because then it would give us enough time to go with another company and we would have to be stuck paying that high rate! THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY!!!.

Long established customer of Countrywide. We have excellent credit with no late payments. They ask for bank statements four or five times and then pull this crap for your protection. Delayed our closing because they wanted the bank statements again! We believe in customer loyalty to companies that treat us right. This time Countrywide did not do that. When my other house sells and we refinance it will not be with Countrywide..

They absolute worst company ever. All they are interested in is getting every penny they can out of you. The amount of time they spend calling to make sure you are making your payment before it is even overdue is ridiculous and frustrating. They unfailingly apply our payments improperly and charge extra fees for miscellaneous things. Incompetent and extremely unhelpful....I warn everyone away!!!!!.

I currenlty have a first mortgage and a home equity loan with Countrywide. I have a very good rate with them on on the first mortgage (under 6%) but have an adjustable rate on the home equity loan. I tried to get a fixed rate on the home equity loan and was told that they would have to reappraise the house and its reappraised value may not be the same as what it was when I took out the home equity loan. I was not looking for any money just a fixed rate. Therefore, I struggle every month with the flexible rate. They did not appear to want to work with me to resolve the issue.......

I SENT AN E-MAIL TO COUNTRYWIDE AND WAS CONTACTED THE NEXT DAY BY TELEPHONE. I WAS QUALIFIED OVER THE PHONE AND GIVEN A RATE AS LOW OR LOWER THAN OTHER MORTGAGE COMPANIES WITH NO POINTS OR CLOSING COSTS. MY RATE WAS LOCKED IN AND MONEY WAS IN MY HANDS FIVE DAYS LATER. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK?.

WORST COMPANY ON THE PLANET! WE WILL NEVER TELL ANYONE TO USE THEM. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY!!! The entire company is filled with liars from the managers, to the brokers, down to the underwriters. Not sure why they lie so much. Must be in the training. We were told we would have one rate and it was 5.5% higher on the paperwork they wanted us to sign. It took 2 months for us NOT TO CLOSE and we are thankful that we didn't. .
